Mark Zuckerberg's Advice On Mistakes

Facebook founder and billionaire Mark Zuckerberg has come under some harsh criticism for some of Facebook’s rather public “mistakes” in the past but it’s never stopped him from pushing forward and trying new things.

“You’re going to make a ton of mistakes…it doesn’t matter. You don’t get judged by the mistakes, people don’t remember those years from now, they remember the things you did that were good.” – Mark Zuckerberg

It’s no surprise that with a mindset like that Mark Zuckerberg is wildly successful. The billionaire and co founder of Facebook isn’t afraid of trying things and publicly being criticised when everything doesn’t go as planned.

That is a key trait that a lot of budding entrepreneurs and those looking to climb the ladder of success would do very well to develop as early as possible.

The Fear Of Criticism

The fear of criticism or being worried about what other people will think is one of the most common and biggest obstacles to success.

No one really likes to look bad in public, to try and fail, to make an error…but mistakes happen, they’re apart of life and how we learn, as Mark says “You don’t get judged by the mistakes, people don’t remember those years from now” and that’s the truth providing you keep moving forward.

“Don’t avoid mistakes. You’ll make a ton. Just learn quickly, keep moving forward & running through walls.” – Mark Zuckerberg

With everything you do there is always going to be risk. Not everything will work just as planned. You might make a mistake that could affect others; you may get some criticism coming your way so here are 3 tips to keep moving forward:

How To Move Past Your Mistakes

1. Have a Strong Mission

If you have a strong mission, are clear on what you want to do and know that it is good and only good then that certainty alone can help you overcome anything thrown your way and drive you forward.

Mark Zuckerberg has a very clear mission which he deeply values and that is to make the world more open and connected. Facebook’s $19bn purchase of Whatsapp demonstrates just how strongly he believes in his mission.

2. Learn Fast

Life has a funny way of making us repeat the same mistakes over and over until we learn from them so the faster you can learn from your mistakes the quicker you will get to where you want to go.

3. Take Control

Take control and responsibility for 100% of everything in your life, even the bad stuff. Only when you do so will you be empowered to make the necessary changes to make things the way you want.

And remember no matter what mistake you make, don’t make the biggest one of all…

“The biggest mistake is letting a mistake demoralize you” – Mark Zuckerberg
